Another One...

Yet another statement from John Kerry, who has supported troops as far back as Vietnam, has come out with more support of our troops. Apparently, even though troops are meticulously taught the Rules of Engagement (there being no such thing for the other side), and even though troops are engaged in combat and fighting a war, he accuses them of "...terrorizing kids and children...".

Nice.

I have more I'd like to write, but... in truth, such comments by people make me nauseuous.

While the comments made by Kerry reflect a poor choice of words, taken in context, if you were an Iraqi child and a bunch of soldiers broke into your house in the middle of the night, wouldn't you be frightened?

While, clearly American soldiers don't go around intentionally terrorizing children, and while clearly American soldiers will attempt to mitigate to the extent possible actions that frighten children, there still exist situations where American soldiers, in the course of rooting out the enemy, cause emotional harm to an innocent child. Certainly not intentionally, and certainly it may not always be avoided.

But it happens. That's war.

Kerry could have been a little more lucid and little less inflammatory, but your quote takes his comment completely out of context.

Anonymous,
I read the transcript. All of it. I think that what I quoted isn't out of context. Especially since I linked to the transcript.

"A little more lucid and little less inflammatory"? I doubt he could do either. He is known and well-parodied for being a rambling speaker and now... he's chosen a role as inflammatory.

If you'll read the transcript, you'll see that apparently what Kerry is bothered is NOT that American Soldiers are inflicting such "emotional harm", but rather... that Iraqi Soldiers should be doing it.

So the emotional harm is not it. Just that our troops should be withdrawn.

In the process of making that point, he characterizes our Soldiers as terrorizing thugs.

I agree with you..I just don't understand it. But, I am just a lowly office worker from California. However, when I read direct reports from officers IN THE FIELD that the things Kerry and others are saying are making our troop's job HARDER!!, that shows which side of the line in the sand this group is standing on. Don't they care, I mean really...what the guys on the front lines think? Their words are directly HURTING our troops efforts, which IS siding with the terrorists. I just don't understand...

God bless you and your family, and thank you for all you do.

The words used by Kerry, Murtha, Dean, Kennedy, Harry Reid & their ilk are not just hurting the troops, they're undermining America trying to make political points & they need to realize that & keep their big mouths shut! You notice that Sen. Leiberman's positive approach has been buried as deeply as the media can get it. I can't understand how any informed American (and surely they are informed) can say such awful things about our troops. You have more support than you know, you just don't hear it said as loudly & we don't get much media attention. :) Thinking of Y'all, Katy

Maybe Kerry had one too many Botox injections.

Anonymous appears to assume that Kerry's comment reflects what American soldiers and Marines do a lot, if not most of the time. Perhaps you could help your readers understand whether that is true or not. Is breaking into a house at night the most common way for women and children to see Americans? Or does the primary image women and children get of Americans come when soldiers and Marines pass out toys, operate a clinic, or otherwise help the local people? Or maybe just passing through on patrol? And when Americans do break into houses in the night, is it random (no profiling allowed!), or is it because a suspected terrorist/insurgent lives there? If the latter, are they always right? Usually right? Sometimes? Never? If there really is a suspect, that he is, for all practical purposes, hiding behind women and children - and the cause of their being "terrorized".
