Happy Birthday to Ellicia!
Yes, today is another day we're happy to have. She's reached another birthday, and her present is that she's not in the hospital!
We are feeling very blessed to have her with us today. I know I mentioned earlier that we'd learned that at the time of her diagnosis, the doctors were estimating she'd have two months to live. As it turns out, our doctor is surprised at her progress, even with her chemo treatments. He, and everyone with whom he's consulted about her case, seems to be quite impressed with her progress. Apparently, the chemo was expected to, at best, prolong her time.
So, given that (and wondering if we really want to learn any more from our doctor), we're very happy to be able to say...

Although we have not met you personally Ellicia, we feel we know you and the children through Reid and Nancy. Reids mother and I have been writing to each other since we were teenagers. Reid visited us in Australia when he was about 13 or 15 and he was interested in flying then and we last caught up with Reid when we visited his family in Charleston SC in April 2000. Les still talks about Reid showing him over the US Navy ship there. We have witnessed Ried grow to be the loving caring husband, provider and father he is today.
Best wishes and we hope Reid can get to bring you down for a visit one day.

Edward sent me a link to your site. I have a background in adolescent counseling and my soldier husband and I have 8 children between us. He thought I might be of service to give you a bit of advice.
The timing of his email is a bit uncanny.... my husband was diagnosed with cancer and just had surgery. Once he recovers from the surgery, he will start 9 months of chemo. I suppose you and I have lots to talk about.
