Pain, No More

Ellicia died today. 3:20 PM. It was a long day, but the end was... peaceful. And heart-wrenching. She was told it was ok to go... but, she's stubborn you know...

She's gone now. No more of the horrible hideous pain... for her.

Rest, in peace, my love... my friend... my companion. I will always love you... and I miss you more than you know. I am so happy you hurt no more, but I am selfish for one last twinkly smile, one last laugh, one last kiss.

You were a beautiful, strong, incredible woman whom I was blessed to know and share some time with. I will miss all that we left undone together, yet I look forward to what will come - one day.

I love you, Ellicia.

One night a man had a dream.

He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.

For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand:
one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him
he looked back, at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of his life
there was only one set of footprints.

He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it: "LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you,
you'd walk with me all the way.

But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me."

The LORD replied:

"My son, My precious child, I love you and I would never leave you, During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."

May God bless you

I'm constantly amazed at the lack of ability the English language has to convey sympathy and concern in times of emotional distress. Or maybe it'sd just that so many of us are so very uncomfortable with the idea of loss that our own intellectual abilities fail us during these times.

Not that the distinction matters -- we still hurt, and those around us feel so completely inadequate to emote, assist, or even just "be there" for others.

And while it's unfortuante for me that I have more than a little experience in these areas, I hope this hard-won advice might be of some comfort to you:

1.) She truly is in a better place. There are no tears there; no pain or sorrows, and she'll be waiting for you there. She's happy now.

2.) Don't let Anyone tell you to "move on" or "Get Over it." You never get over it -- you just learn how to live with it a little better each day and adapt.

3.) Don't be afraid to pray. God hears you, and Loves you, and hurts just as much as you do with her passing -- for your sake. He cares, and He will provide for you.

4.) Know that there's literally thousands, even Tens of Thousands of people out here praying for you and your family. Let us know what we can do to help -- we'll be there.

~~John~~

May it be of some comfort to you and your family to know that there are more people out here that mourn your loss than you realize! I know... I'm one of them! My deepest sympathies!

Why some go forward before us, we never really know. To relieve her pain? To deepen your strength, or ask others to share your burden?

The plan is revealed when we join our loved ones in the next life. Like children, we won't know until then.

Cherish the love you shared. You will relive it in a shining place.

My family's prayers are with you and yours today. I share this poem with you to help you through your trial.

"I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says, “There, she is gone!”

“Gone where?”

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side, and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says, “There, she is gone!” there are others watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: “Here she comes!”

And that is dying."

He Only Takes the Best

God saw she was getting tired
And a cure was not to be.
So He put his arms around her
And whispered, "Come with Me."
With Tear filled eyes
We watched her suffer and fade away
Although we loved her deeply,
We could not make her stay.
A Golden Heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands put to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.

in the folds of God's robe
from there she watches over you and your children
from there God graces her a most smooth peace that only residence with Him can grant
and with all quarrels of will to live and fiery pain that only death could silence now eternally settled
she devotes full time her protection over those she loved more than herself
through my tears of sorrow for losing her, a wife and mother whose voice I never heard
whose kindnesses I personally never felt
but I felt I knew because of her
loving husbands dedication and
abiding faith in their everlasting love
I can take some solace and am quick to say out loud that yes, I feel it
deep and true
she is smiling down on her beautiful children
on her amazing husband
and is rejoicing in her freedom
to spread her wings over all and each of you
bearing the power and strength of God in each arm
and be with you in every moment
of the rest of your land bound lives still amongst the rest of us
and with every flickering reddened leaf
with every bending blade of dewy grass
with every stride of the hawk's cry
with every burble of a content wave touching the sleeping beach
with every whisper of why from your children's lips that finds good the answer the twinkling star in the night does speak
for it is her voice that sings
and so there she will be
forever and until
you each and all join her
safe and bright in the folds
of God's robe

Words are pretty inadequate when someone has lost a special person. Our prayers will now be for you and your beautiful children as we know your wife is now with God.

Just know that even in bad times, good things come. Not that this takes away the bad, nothing could but rather that God still has His hand your life and that of your precious children.

I was just reading this yesterday;

"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

Rev 21.4 (NIV)

May the Lord care for you and your
beautiful family at this sad time.

My deepest sympathy to you and your children. I can only imagine the loss and void in your life that you feel right now. I pray that God will give you strength, will and determination to face the days ahead. Be strong for yourself as well as your children. I wish you the best. God Bless.

God I'm so sorry. I'm trying to keep from bawling like a little kid at my desk right now, God bless you and the kids and let us know how to help.

Prayers for comfort for your family will keep coming your way from this stranger. I have been touched and inspired by your wifes grace and bravery. And yours.

I am so sorry. I can't tell you the devastation I felt when I read this post. I have been checking back periodically, since reading about you at Michelle Malkin. I guess I had this idea that because we all knew and cared, nothing bad would happen. We do care, even if you don't know us. You and your family are loved. Take care friend.

Reid, I just now saw your post. There is solace in knowing that Ellicia's pain is finally over, but I am so very sorry for the pain you and the kids are now enduring. We will be praying for God's peace, comfort, strength and healing for you and the family in the days to come.

Let us know if there is anything at all that we can do for y'all.

I don't know you but saw a comment on Smash's blog. I've lost family members to cancer as well. It's a horrible disease that hurts family members as well as the person who has it. I'm very, very sorry for your loss and will keep you and your family in my prayers.
